Honor Choir auditions are coming up! There are two different choirs for which our 7th and 8th grade choir students can audition. I've got a special deal worked out with Concert Choir if all of the students audition; parents can talk to students more about it. Regardless of what choir you're in, definitely think about auditioning. Super fun time; ask any other student that's done it before!
Details below in the slide show, as well as under the "Students" item on the menu under "Audition Materials" (or use the buttons below). Contact me with any questions, and I'll be happy to help!
Class fees have been posted for all students at Sunset. This includes all applicable courses for any class your student is taking. Using RevTrak to pay your fees is STRONGLY encouraged. I'll also be doing a prize drawing for students who have turned in their choir fees sometime within the next month, so make sure your choir fee gets paid! The grand prize will be 2 Elitches tickets good through the end of this season.
For those that RevTrak isn't an option for their individual situation, students may bring their fee to me personally, preferably in cash. To see your individual fee, you may use RevTrak, or the student may check with me in class. Most are $20 (6th Grade fees are half as much because their course is only a semester long).
Here are some of the things that class fees go towards for your student:
Thank you for helping us create an engaging educational environment for all of our choir students!
I'm SUPER proud of all of you for putting yourselves out there! I heard a great set of auditions, and it was a hard decision. Auditions and interviews are HARD....don't ever stop taking shots for the things you want to be a part of, regardless of past outcomes! Come talk to me if you'd like some feedback about your audition.
Below is the list of students that will be members of the a cappella group this year, beginning with the first rehearsal on Monday after school.
Our a cappella group will be starting rehearsals on September 11th. Sign-ups for auditions have been posted outside the choir room door. Students will need to bring the form below (signed by themselves and their parents) to their audition. This form is available by sign-up sheet. The only other thing that students will need to prepare is a song of their choice that will be performed a cappella (likely only a short section: 30-60 seconds approximately). There are no genre requirements. Details about the group and the audition process are in the slideshow below. Please contact me with any questions...I look forward to hearing the auditions and songs you choose!
Hello to all the choir families!
I hope that you've had a great summer! Mine went by far too fast, and I wouldn't be surprised if you're thinking the same thing. But here we are, and I'm ready to get rolling. Welcome back to all returning choir members, and welcome to new choir members! I'm exited to have ALL of you in choir...our choir program grew from last year by at least 20 people, putting us OVER 200 PEOPLE that will be involved this year. Crazy!
If you have any questions about the schedule in choir this year (when a cappella auditions are, when our musical starts, when and where honor choir auditions are held, and most importantly....when the concerts are) you can find them on our Choir Calendar page. You can also find the choir concert dates on our Home Page.
Parents and students, please check out the Syllabus so you understand how you'll be graded this year. There will be some changes; mostly additions to help you become a well-rounded musician, which will enable you to perform in any aspect of your life as you go into the future. Expectations are high, but I have confidence you all have the capability to live up to them; it's up to you to put in the work. Nothing great happens without hard work and dedication, plus some mistakes along the way that you learn from.
Important note from the syllabus: All students must bring a 1" binder (preferably with pockets) or $2 to purchase a new one from Mr. Wubbena on Monday, August 20th.
Practice files, both sheet music and audio files can be found on the website for students to practice at home. Assignments may be posted on this website, but will more likely be accessed via Schoology, which we will be using more heavily this year.
Finally, keep an eye out for an e-mail about class fees. They won't have them loaded until schedule changes are done, probably somewhere at the beginning of March. I'll send out a notice when you can pay them. There is a link on the Home page or Syllabus that will take you to RevTrak to pay those. I'll send a reminder when I hear that they're all loaded and ready.
It's going to be a great year! Please do feel free to contact me with any questions, especially since I won't be able to make it to Back-to-School night because of a previous commitment. E-mail is probably the best way to get a hold of me, but I'm happy to give you a call if you'd rather talk.
P.S. Exciting news! (See below)
I was so impressed by the auditions you all had. Regardless of if you made it or not, feel free to talk to me next week if you'd like to see your scores, and see what you should focus on in choir next year. If you didn't make it this year and are a 6th grader, I'm confident you can make it next year if you put in some good work in those places. If you made it, now you're expected to continue to improve as a singer and as a choir member. Unfortunately, we had less space available than singers, so some awesome people didn't make it this year. BUT! I'm excited for awesome singers in all of our choirs next year...it's looking to be a great year!
Hi all, below is a link to a document that details summer camp and lesson opportunities you may want to take advantage of. Credit goes to Connie Dewlen over at Westview who has compiled this for her students, and is sharing it with us and anyone else that would like to use the information. Let me know if you have any questions, but it would be best to contact the company/person listed there.
It's almost that time of year! 7th and 8th Grade music students have the option of attending the Elitches trip on the last day of school. Students should be bringing this form home tonight, but you can download the form below yourself if it gets misplaced on the way (which, of course, would NEVER happen), or read it in browser after the picture. It contains eligibility requirements, cost, and the permission form. We need chaperones as well, and we'd love to have you join us!
E-mail me with any questions. Thanks!
8th Graders, if you're interested in being a part of Niwot's musical production next year, here's the info! Let me know if you have questions or need help with anything like getting music or choosing the right 32 measures to sing.
From Laura Marshall, Choral Director at Niwot HS:
We have picked our fall musical for next year! We are doing Drowsy Chaperone. Auditions will be on Tuesday, April 18th after school in the Niwot HS choir room. Students need to prepare part (~32 measures) of a music theatre song (we have an accompanist so well need sheet music as well if possible) and a 1-2 minute monologue!
Questions may be directed to: firstname.lastname@example.org
